Join celebrated historian, Prof Ronald Hutton for a fascinating lecture on Joan of Arc.

Joan of Arc is a unique historical character: the medieval person about whom most has been written; the best recorded medieval commoner; and the only person to be both executed as a heretic and then made a saint (by the same Church). Today she is equally popular with Catholics, socialists and feminists: and yet her public career lasted only twelve months. This talk is designed to ask whether we can truly get to know her, why she became so famous, and why she is at once one of the most spectacular successes, and failures, in history

About your speaker: Prof Hutton is an English historian who specialises in Early Modern Britain, British folklore, pre-Christian religion and Contemporary Paganism. He is a professor at the University of Bristol, has written 14 books and has appeared on British television and radio. He held a fellowship at Magdalen College, Oxford, and is a Commissioner of English Heritage. We are delighted to welcome him back to The Barn!

The primary purpose of this event is to raise money for WMBT and to support conservation, management, maintenance and improvement of the WMBT site.
