We are delighted to welcome Linda Hall back to The Barn to share her extensive knowledge of local architecture and the clues it gives us about a building’s age / past.

Based on research begun over 50 years ago for an undergraduate dissertation, this talk looks at the building materials and styles of the local houses from the 14th to the end of the 17th century.
It includes a comparison of the roof structure of Winterbourne Barn with several local houses, two of them tree-ring dated. Are they younger or older than the barn? You’ll have to come along to find out!

About your speaker:
Linda studied archaeology and history at Southampton University, followed by vernacular architecture in south Gloucestershire and has had works published on vernacular buildings and period house fittings & fixtures.
Linda has been involved with The Barn for many years as a previous Trustee and currently as a volunteer. Probably most notably, Linda was instrumental in discovering The Barn’s true age (through knowledge gained from her studies) and highlighting the rarity and importance of a genuine Medieval building in the area. Thanks to this, Linda and a team of dedicated locals raised awareness and helped to save The Barn so that it could be restored to the beautiful site you see today.

The primary purpose of this event is to raise money for WMBT and to support conservation, management, maintenance and improvement of the WMBT site.

If you wish to avoid the online booking fee then please contact the office to arrange a time to come and book in person.
