Garden Group

Some five years ago, we broke into an enclosed area of ground to the south of the West Barn and started to clear the entire area of brambles. This was followed by creating a single raised bed from a mound of topsoil that had been cleared from a site in Frenchay Park Road by the previous owner, a builder. So was started the garden group, known up until now as the Growing Group. The next year we created two more beds. So for five years we have been planting and sowing vegetables on this site and selling some produce to Melanie’s Kitchen in Downend.

The purpose of this venture is to use some of the site as an allotment where people who have some or no special expertise in growing vegetables can join an enthusiastic team, learn and have fun. We usually meet on site on Friday mornings between 10am and 1pm in a very informal manner. During these meetings we sow directly, maintain the garden or harvest. In addition to this we have three days earmarked for sowing seeds for bringing on as plants, potting them on and then planting out.

We would love to have more people so if you fancy joining us, come along and meet us on a Friday morning or e-mail through the contact details on this website.
